Pero estos desafíos nunca justificarán actitudes amenazantes o faltas de respeto entre nuestros países. “Los mexicanos podemos tener diferencias entre nosotros, y más aún en tiempos de elecciones, pero estaremos siempre unidos en la defensa de la dignidad y la soberanía de nuestro país. “Por ello, ante los últimos acontecimientos, el Senado de la República, de manera unánime, condenó ayer las expresiones ofensivas e infundadas sobre los mexicanos, y demandó el trato de respeto que exige una relación entre países vecinos, socios y aliados. “A este pronunciamiento del Poder Legislativo se sumaron los candidatos a la Presidencia de la República. Independientemente de sus naturales diferencias, todos coincidieron en rechazar medidas contrarias a una buena vecindad. “Como dijo Ricardo Anaya: éste es un momento de unidad nacional. No es un tema de campañas. Es un tema de país. “Andrés Manuel López Obrador apuntó que necesitamos una relación de amistad y cooperación para el desarrollo. No el uso de la fuerza. No muros. No apostar a una mala vecindad. “José Antonio Meade señaló que es momento para que todos nos unamos en la defensa de la soberanía y la dignidad de la Nación. “Y Margarita Zavala dijo que, a la hora de defender la dignidad nacional, todos hablamos con una sola voz y exigimos respeto. “Como Presidente de todos los mexicanos, coincido con estas expresiones. “México es una Nación grande y fuerte. Somos una Nación orgullosa de su gran historia y cultura; de su presente dinámico y de un brillante futuro. “Somos un país vibrante, innovador y lleno de talento. “Somos una Nación generosa y con un gran corazón. “Pero, sobre todo, somos una Nación soberana, con valores y con principios. “Y aquí estamos, 125 millones de mexicanos, muy orgullosos de todo lo que somos. “Presidente Trump: “Si usted quiere llegar a acuerdos con México, estamos listos. Como lo hemos demostrado hasta ahora, siempre dispuestos a dialogar con seriedad, de buena fe y con espíritu constructivo. “Si sus recientes declaraciones derivan de una frustración por asuntos de política interna, de sus leyes o de su Congreso, diríjase a ellos, no a los mexicanos. No vamos a permitir que la retórica negativa defina nuestras acciones. “Sólo actuaremos en el mejor interés de los mexicanos. “Evocando las palabras de un gran Presidente de los Estados Unidos de América: no tendremos miedo a negociar. Pero nunca vamos a negociar con miedo. “Estamos convencidos de que, poniéndonos de acuerdo, como amigos, socios y buenos vecinos, a ambos países nos va a ir mucho mejor que confrontándonos. “Estamos listos para negociar, sí, pero siempre partiendo de la base del respeto mutuo. “Hay algo que a que todos, absolutamente a todos los mexicanos nos une y nos convoca: la certeza de que nada, ni nadie está por encima de la dignidad de México”.
