PLOT: Sixteen year old Mo (Griffin Gluck) doesn’t have many friends his own age. But, he does have a best friend in twenty-three-year-old Zeke (Pete Davidson), his sister’s former boyfriend. Far from a good influence, the nonetheless charming Zeke treats Mo more like a contemporary than the kid he actually is, getting the both of them into a whole world of trouble. REVIEW: We’ve all had a Zeke in our lives - he's that older kid who always seemed just a bit cooler, smarter, funnier and charismatic than anyone else. They were the guys who moved effortlessly between social cliques in high school, being friends with everyone from the jocks to the nerds, and who seemed to vanish after high school. Expertly played by Pete Davidson, Zeke is shown to be a perpetual teenager, spending most of his days smoking weed and drinking beer with his fellow layabouts (including Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly). Like most of the real-world Zeke’s, he’s not a bad guy per se, he’s just a thoroughly unambitious, irresponsible one. We see him give the impressionable Mo booze and drugs, but you never doubt his affection for the younger man, even when he talks him into becoming a defacto drug dealer for his high school’s weekly parties. The movie, written and directed by Jason Orley, relies completely on Davidson’s performance, even if it’s really “American Vandal”’s Griffin Gluck who’s the actual lead. If you hadn’t been able to buy Zeke’s essential goodness and charisma, the movie would have fallen apart. Here, more than ever, it’s clear Davidson has that X-factor that makes stars, even if he’s such a live wire on the screen you can’t help but worry for his own well-being off camera, given that he seems to be living such a crazy, gossip-filled life. He really has that seed of unpredictability, but also so much heart that you can’t help but hope Mo somehow finds a place for Zeke in his life even after he outgrows him. Davidson is so likable that you buy Mo’s folks (including Jon Cryer sporting a cool shaved head) not demanding their son cut him out of his life. They know he’s bad, but they also know he cares about their son. Orley’s made a pretty likable, mainstream film (under the American Teen banner - a new outfit designed to make high school set comedies). Imagine it as the kind of movie John Hughes might have made had to be been give his movies R-ratings, with Gluck fresh-faced and likable. However, the movie is at it’s best when centered on Zeke and his buddies, and when it was over I still wanted to know what happened to them further down the line - the mark of a well-written/well-acted comedy. I imagine BIG TIME ADOLESCENCE will for sure appeal to Pete Davidson fans, but even if he’s not your cup of tea, give this a shot. It reveals there’s more to him than what you see on SNL, and if anyone was going to break out and be the next Adam Sandler or something, Davidson would have my bet.

This is the second Sundance film starring a kid from American Vandal Big Time Adolescence is written and directed by Jason Orley, stars Griffin Gluck, Pete Davidson, Sydney Sweeney, Colson Baker, Thomas Barbusca, Emily Arlook, Oona Laurence, and Jon Cryer. It tells the story of a suburban teenager coming of age under the destructive guidance of his best friend, an aimless college dropout. Now, I am a huge fan of Pete Davidson. I have loved most of his work on SNL and was a big fan of his first stand up special. It’s been exciting watching him develop as a comedian, even before all the tabloid stuff, so I was very excited to see he would be stepping into more serious work. That being said, how does he do.  Big Time Adolescence  greatly benefits from Orley’s unique and hilarious voice and propelled further by fantastic performances from Pete Davidson and Griffin Gluck. He did it, folks. Jason Orley is making his debut as a director here and he knocks it out of the park. This is clearly material very close to Orley, as it’s loosely based on his actual life, and his touch can be seen throughout. Many could write off this as a typical coming of age comedy, but Orley comes to the genre with such a fresh and hilarious touch that you can’t help but be charmed by it. It’s sweet, genuine, and hysterical. The first act of this film is legitimately laughing out loud funny the entire time and Orely is able to keep this momentum up throughout. That being said, this is clearly a debut. Orley has a bit of a tough time wrapping up the film, and the stakes are raised to a degree that doesn’t really feel earned. Also, the film opens with narration and then completely drops it.  Big Time Adolescence  isn’t a perfect film, but it shines a light on the rising talent of everyone involved. Griffin Gluck has been a star I haven’t necessarily had my eye on, but one I was aware of. If you couldn’t tell from the logline of the review, I’m a big fan of American Vandal so I was very pleased to see him in this. He does a great job and I’ll now be looking out for him in the future. Jon Cryer does a fine job as well, I just would have liked to see a bit more from his character. Colson Baker, also known as Machine Gun Kelly is here, and he actually does a very good job. He’s very funny and while I was a bit surprised to see him pop up, he wasn’t unwanted. Now, onto the big boy. Pete Davidson is fantastic. If he wasn’t already a star, this would be a star-making role for him. He plays this role perfectly, and while I get the impression it may have been written for him, he knocks it out of the park regardless. He is hilarious, charming, deeply flawed, and a bit unlikable all at the same time and he was a delight to watch. Nothing was changed to make this character look better or make the character more likable. We all know a Zeke, and Davidson does a wonderful job bringing him to life. I know I say this a lot but I would love to see him get a nomination or two for this performance. I am a big fan of the coming of age genre and when discussing them I organize them into three groups. There are the guilty pleasures like The DUFF or 10 Things I Hate About You, the masterpieces like Me and Earl and The Dying Girl  and  Eighth Grade  and then there are the ones that are really good, but not extraordinary. Films like The Edge Of Seventeen, Love, Simon, and (you guessed it) Big Time Adolescence. It does a great job at everything it tries to do, but it’s just shy of excellence. Its cinematography is sleek, it has a nice score, the editing is well done and everything overall is executed effectively, it’s just missing that spark that makes it a classic. It has such a great heart and the performances are wonderful, it’s just shy of really standing out. That being said, talk about a good problem to have. Orley and everyone involved did a great job with this film, and I will be highly anticipating whatever they do best. In short,  Big Time Adolescence  is an enjoyable, heartfelt coming of age comedy with fantastic performances and a showcases a fresh new voice in director Jason Orley. 4/5.

Edit Storyline In the 5th century, the Roman Empire was collapsing and barbarians threatened civilization. In Britain, a teenager named Patrick was living a comfortable life as the son of a government official. Despite being part of the Roman Catholic Church, his faith didn't mean anything to him until he was kidnapped by pirates at the age of 16 and enslaved at the edge of the known world - Ireland. For 6 years Patrick was forced to work as a shepherd and was driven to the brink of starvation. It was there that he turned to his Christian faith and through divine intervention managed to escape. He was reunited with his family in Britain only to have a prophetic dream calling him to take Christianity back to the land of his captivity. Against the wishes of his family and the Church, Patrick returned as a missionary bishop to Ireland and converted thousands to Christianity. He opposed slavers, Irish kings, and possibly druids but nothing compared to the hostility he faced from his fellow Christians.... Ireland is an island to the north-west of continental Europe. Politically, Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland, which covers just under five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, a part of the United Kingdom, which covers the remainder and is located in the north-east of the island. Roman Catholicism is the largest religious denomination, representing over 73% for the island and about 87% of the Republic of Ireland. Introduction of Christianity [ edit] The introduction of Christianity to Ireland dates to sometime before the 5th century, presumably in interactions with Roman Britain. Christian worship had reached pagan Ireland around 400 AD. It is often misstated that St. Patrick brought the faith to Ireland, but it was already present on the island before Patrick arrived. Monasteries were built for monks who wanted permanent communion with God. The lengths they went to for tranquility are evident from the monastery of Skellig Michael. Via Aidan, Christianity spread among the Picts and Northumbrians. Scholars have long considered the term " Celtic Church " to be inappropriate for describing Christianity among Celtic-speaking peoples, since this would imply a notion of unity, or a self-identifying entity, that did not exist. [1] As Patrick Wormald explained, "One of the common misconceptions is that there was a 'Roman Church' to which the 'Celtic' was nationally opposed. " [2] Celtic-speaking areas were part of Latin Christendom as a whole, wherein a significant degree of liturgical and structural variation existed, along with a collective veneration of the Bishop of Rome that was no less intense in Britain and Ireland. [3] Some scholars have chosen to apply the term " Insular Christianity " to this Christian practice that arose around the Irish Sea. Palladius and Patrick [ edit] According to Prosper of Aquitaine, Palladius was from a noble family in Gaul. In 429, he was serving as a deacon in Rome. The Pope commissioned him to send Germanus, Bishop of Auxerre, to investigate rumors of Pelagianism in Britain. In 431, Pope Celestine I consecrated Palladius a bishop and sent him to minister to the "Scots believing in Christ". [4] His mission mainly seems to have been to Irish Christians in the east midlands, Leinster, and perhaps east Munster. It is uncertain if he converted any Irish. What little is known of his mission appears to have been successful, though it was later downplayed by partisans of Patrick. Saint Patrick's dates are uncertain. All that can be said is that he was alive sometime in the fifth century, and was a missionary bishop rather than ministering to Christians. His areas appear to have been Ulster and north Connacht, but very little can be said with certainty about him. Later tradition from the seventh-century onwards is known to be unreliable. [ citation needed] Native ministry [ edit] Monastic establishments arose in the sixth century, such as Clonard, founded by St. Finian, Clonfert by St. Brendan, Bangor by St. Comgall, Clonmacnoise by St. Kieran, Killeaney by St. Enda; and, in the seventh century, Lismore by St. Carthage and Glendalough by St. Kevin. In 563, St. Columba, a native of Donegal, accompanied by a few companions, crossed the sea to Caledonia and founded a monastery on the desolate island of Iona. Irish monasteries [ edit] This section needs expansion. You can help by adding to it. ( October 2018) Fresh arrivals came from Ireland; the monastery with Columba as its abbot was soon a flourishing institution, from which the Dalriadian Scots in the south and the Picts beyond the Grampians were evangelized. When Columba died in 597, Christianity had been preached and received in every district in Caledonia, and in every island along its west coast. In the next century Iona had so prospered that its abbot, St. Adamnan, wrote in excellent Latin the "Life of St. Columba". From Iona had gone south the Irish Aidan and his Irish companions to evangelize Northumbria, Mercia, and Essex. Missionaries abroad [ edit] Missionaries from Ireland to England and Continental Europe spread news of the flowering of learning, and scholars from other nations came to Irish monasteries. The excellence and isolation of these monasteries helped preserve Latin learning during the Early Middle Ages. The period of Insular art, mainly in the fields of illuminated manuscripts, metalworking, and sculpture flourished and produced such treasures as the Book of Kells, the Ardagh Chalice, and the many carved stone crosses that dot the island. These monasteries served as sanctuary to many of the continents great scholars and theologians. It was here that the lamp of Latin learning was preserved for the ages. During this age, the great illuminated manuscripts of Ireland were produced. Arguably the finest such work is The Book of Kells which may still be viewed at Trinity College, Dublin. The first significant renewal of learning in the West came with the Carolingian Renaissance of the Early Middle Ages. Charlemagne, advised by Peter of Pisa and Alcuin of York, attracted the scholars of England and Ireland, and by decree in AD 787 established schools in every abbey in his empire. These schools, from which the name scholasticism is derived, became centres of medieval learning. During the early Scholastic period, knowledge of the Greek language had vanished in the west except in Ireland, where it was widely dispersed in the monastic schools. [5] Irish scholars had a considerable presence in the Frankish court, where they were renowned for their learning. [6] Among them was Johannes Scotus Eriugena, one of the founders of scholasticism. [7] Eriugena was the most significant Irish intellectual of the early monastic period, and an outstanding philosopher in terms of originality. [6] He had considerable familiarity with the Greek language, and translated many works into Latin, affording access to the Cappadocian Fathers and the Greek theological tradition. [6] Arrival of the Vikings [ edit] During the ninth and tenth centuries, waves of Norse warriors ransacked the countryside. The monasteries were favourite targets for their treasures of golden religious ornaments. As the eighth century neared its close, religion and learning still flourished, but unexpected dangers approached and a new enemy came, before whose assaults monk and monastery and saint and scholar disappeared. These invaders were the Danes from the coasts of Scandinavia. Pagans and pirates, they were formidable foes both on land and sea. In Ireland as elsewhere they attacked the monasteries and churches, desecrated the altars, carried away the gold and silver vessels, and smoking ruins and murdered monks attested the fury of their assaults. Under native and Christian chiefs churches were destroyed, church lands appropriated by laymen, monastic schools deserted, and lay abbots ruled at Armagh and elsewhere. Bishops were consecrated without sees and conferred orders for money, there was chaos in church government and corruption everywhere. [ citation needed] In a series of synods beginning with Ráth Breasail (1118) and including Kells (1152), at which the pope's legate presided, many salutary enactments were passed, and for the first time diocesan episcopacy was established. Meanwhile, St. Malachy, Archbishop of Armagh, had done very remarkable work in his own diocese and elsewhere. His early death in 1148 was a heavy blow to the cause of church reform. Nor could so many evils be cured in a single life, or by the labours of a single man; and in spite of his efforts and the efforts of others the decrees of synods were often flouted, and the new diocesan boundaries ignored. [ citation needed] Anglo-Normans [ edit] In December 1154, Henry Plantagenet, Duke of Normandy and Aquitaine, by the Treaty of Wallingford and a large fleet, became in addition Henry II, King of England. In that same month an Englishman, Nicholas Breakspeare, was elected Pope Adrian IV. Henry intended, as shown by his later Constitutions of Clarendon, to establish the supremacy of the civil law and courts above the ecclesiastical law and courts. In the first full year of Henry's reign (1155) he procured the Papal Bull Laudabiliter from the Hertfordshire born Pope Adrian IV authorizing Henry to proceed to conquer Ireland "to check the torrent of wickedness to reform evil manners, to sow the seeds of virtue". The quid pro quo was the condition that a penny should be yearly paid from each house to the See of Rome (the still extant Peter's Pence). Henry and the Pope also had other reasons (see Henry II, section "Lordship over Ireland"). The invasion was put aside while Henry attended to other matters. Henry continued to battle the supreme power of the Church, and Thomas Becket in England. In 1166, Henry took the opportunity to accede to the request by displaced Irish Rí of Leinster, Diarmait Mac Murchada for assistance in regaining his Irish territory. A first contingent of the Norman Invasion of Ireland came to Ireland in 1169 under Maurice Fitzgerald, followed by a stronger force under Strongbow ( Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke) in 1170, the year Thomas à Beckett was murdered. In 1171 Henry himself landed at Waterford and proceeded to Dublin, where he spent the winter, and received the submission of most of the Irish chiefs. This submission was outlined in the Treaty of Windsor 1175. Reformation and beyond [ edit] It was not until the end of the 17th centuries that the Crown of England gained full control of Ireland by means of a series of military campaigns in the period 1534–1691. During this period, the island was progressively colonised by English and Scottish Protestant settlers. Most of the Irish remained Roman Catholic. Henry VIII [ edit] Henry VIII decided to destroy the power of the Anglo-Norman kings and take control of Ireland. As he did so, he put English lords in charge of confiscated land and plundered the Catholic monasteries and churches, as he had done in England. In 1536 during the Reformation, Henry arranged to be declared head of the Church in Ireland through an act of the Irish Parliament. When the Church of England was reformed under Edward VI, so too was the Church of Ireland. In the beginning of his reign, Henry VIII was preoccupied with more pressing matters in England and on the European Continent, and therefore paid little attention to Ireland. It was not until he had reigned for a quarter of a century on the throne that he turned his attention to Ireland and then it was primarily due his conflict with the Church over his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. Then Parliament passed the Act of Supremacy, which invested Henry with spiritual jurisdiction over England and proclaimed him head of the Church of England rather than the Pope. When the proctors of the clergy refused to agree to this measure, the irate monarch deprived them of the right of voting, confiscated church lands and suppressed monasteries, in some cases shedding the blood of their inmates, in the remaining cases evicting them and making them homeless and poor. Elizabeth I [ edit] Fearing Ireland's Catholicism and strategic value for her enemies, Elizabeth consolidated English power in Ireland. The established church in Ireland underwent a period of more radical Calvinist doctrine than occurred in England. James Ussher (later Archbishop of Armagh) authored the Irish Articles, adopted in 1615. In 1634, the Irish Convocation adopted the English Thirty-Nine Articles alongside the Irish Articles. After the Restoration of 1660, it seems that the Thirty-Nine Articles took precedence; they remain the official doctrine of the Church of Ireland even after disestablishment. [8] The English-speaking minority mostly adhered to the Church of Ireland or to Presbyterianism, while the Irish-speaking majority remained faithful to the Latin liturgy of Roman Catholicism. From this period on, sectarian conflict became a recurrent theme in Irish history. Translation of the Bible into Irish [ edit] The first Irish translation of the New Testament was begun by Nicholas Walsh, Bishop of Ossory, who worked on it until he was murdered in 1585. The work was continued by John Kearny, his assistant, and Nehemiah Donellan, Archbishop of Tuam; it was finally completed by William O'Domhnuill (William Daniell, Archbishop of Tuam in succession to Donellan). Their work was printed in 1602. The work of translating the Old Testament was undertaken by William Bedel (1571–1642), Bishop of Kilmore, who completed his translation within the reign of Charles I, although it was not published until 1680 in a revised version by Narcissus Marsh (1638–1713), Archbishop of Dublin. William Bedell had undertaken a translation of the Book of Common Prayer in 1606. An Irish translation of the revised prayer book of 1662 was effected by John Richardson (1664–1747) and published in 1712. The first translation of the entire Bible that was approved by the church was An Bíobla Naofa, supervised by Pádraig Ó Fiannachta at Maynooth and published in 1981. Persecution and Penal Laws [ edit] The Irish Confederate Wars resulted in much destruction of church property. Irish Catholics were severely persecuted under Oliver Cromwell, their situation only slightly improving under the Stuart kings. The land settlements in the aftermath of these wars, and the defeat of James II in 1691, reduced Irish Catholic freeholders to a fraction of their previous size. The introduction of the Penal Laws further proscribed the practise of Roman Catholicism, with many priests and bishops forced into hiding or exile. Not until the 1770s did the religious climate relax, somewhat. Protestant ascendancy (1691–1801) [ edit] Before the Stuart accession, Ireland was divided into thirty-four boroughs. In 1613, forty new boroughs were created, all of them dominated by Protestants. The consequence of this was the reduction of the Catholic majority in the Irish parliament to a minority. By the end of the seventeenth century all Catholics, representing some 85% of Ireland's population then, were banned from the Irish parliament. As a result, political power rested entirely in the hands of a British settler-colonial, and more specifically Anglican, minority while the Catholic population suffered severe political and economic privations. By the late 18th century, many of the Anglo-Irish ruling class had come to see Ireland as their native country. A Parliamentary faction led by Henry Grattan agitated for a more favourable trading relationship with England and for greater legislative independence for the Parliament of Ireland. However, reform in Ireland stalled over the more radical proposals to enfranchise Irish Catholics. This was enabled in 1793, but Catholics could not yet enter parliament or become government officials. Oath of Allegiance [ edit] By the Treaty of Limerick the Catholic soldiers of King James were pardoned, protected against forfeiture of their estates, and were free to go abroad if they chose. All Catholics might substitute an oath of allegiance for the oath of supremacy, and were to have such privileges "as were consistent with the laws of Ireland, or as they did enjoy in the reign of Charles II". King William also promised to have the Irish Parliament grant a further relaxation of the penal laws in force. This treaty, however, was soon torn to shreds, and in spite of William's appeals the Irish Parliament refused to ratify it, and embarked on fresh penal legislation. Under these new laws Catholics were excluded from Parliament, from the bench and bar, from the army and navy, from all civil offices, from the corporations, and even from the corporate towns. They could not have Catholic schools at home or attend foreign schools, or inherit landed property, or hold land under lease, or act as executors or administrators, or have arms or ammunition, or a horse worth £5. Neither could they bury their dead in Catholic ruins, or make pilgrimages to holy wells, or observe Catholic holidays. They could not intermarry with the Protestants, the clergyman assisting at such marriages being liable to death. The wife of a Catholic landlord turning Protestant got separate maintenance; the son turning Protestant got the whole estate; and the Catholic landlord having only Catholic children was obliged at death to divide his estate among his children in equal shares. All the regular clergy, as well as bishops and vicars-general should quit the kingdom. The secular clergy might remain, but must be registered, nor could they have on their churches either steeple or bell. In 1728, the Catholics outnumbered Protestants 5 to 1. A few Catholics managed to hold their estates with the collaboration of friendly Protestants; the remainder gradually sank to the level of cottiers and day-labourers, reduced to a standard of living far below what they had been used to. Many Catholics chose to emigrate in the hopes of finding a more congenial environment. Irish Parliament and the Passing of Tolerance [ edit] In the Irish Parliament meanwhile a spirit of independence appeared. As the Parliament of the Pale it had been so often used for factious purposes that in 1496 Poynings' Law was passed, providing that henceforth no Irish Parliament could meet, and no law could be proposed, without the previous consent of both the Irish and English Privy Councils. Further, the English Parliament claimed the right to legislate for Ireland; and in the laws prohibiting the importation of Irish cattle (1665), and Irish woollen manufactures (1698), and that dealing with the Irish forfeited estates (1700), it asserted its supposed right. When one member, Molyneux, protested, the English Parliament condemned him, and ordered his book to be burned by the common hangman. Moreover, it passed an Act in 1719 expressly declaring that it had power to legislate for Ireland, taking away also the appellate jurisdiction of the Irish House of Lords. The fight made by Swift against Wood's halfpence showed that, though Molyneux was dead, his spirit lived; Lucas continued the fight, and Grattan in 1782 obtained legislative independence. In 1778 by an Act enabling Catholics to hold all lands under lease; and in 1782 by a further Act allowing them to erect Catholic schools, with the permission of the Protestant bishop of the diocese, to own a horse worth more than £5, and to assist at Mass without being compelled to accuse the officiating priest. Nor were Catholic bishops any longer compelled to quit the kingdom, nor Catholic children specially rewarded if they turned Protestant. Not for ten years was there any further concession, and then an Act was passed allowing Catholics to erect schools without seeking Protestant permission, admitting Catholics to the Bar, and legalizing marriages between Protestants and Catholics. Much more important was the Act of 1793 giving the Catholics the Parliamentary and municipal franchise, admitting them to the universities and to military and civil offices, and removing all restrictions in regard to the tenure of land. They were still excluded from Parliament, from the inner Bar, and from a few of the higher civil and military offices. Always in favour of religious liberty, Grattan would have swept away every vestige of the Penal code. But, in 1782, he mistakenly thought that his work was done when legislative independence was conceded. He forgot that the executive was still left independent of Parliament, answerable only to the English ministry; and that, with rotten boroughs controlled by a few great families, with an extremely limited franchise in the counties, and with pensioners and placemen filling so many seats, the Irish Parliament was but a mockery of representation. Like Grattan, Flood and Charlemont favoured Parliamentary reform, but, unlike him, they were opposed to Catholic concessions. As for Foster and Fitzgibbon, who led the forces of corruption and bigotry, they opposed every attempt at reform, and consented to the Act of 1793 only under strong pressure from Pitt and Dundas. These English ministers, alarmed at the progress of French revolutionary principles in Ireland, fearing a foreign invasion, wished to have the Catholics contented. In 1795 further concessions seemed imminent. In that year an illiberal viceroy, Lord Westmoreland, was replaced by the liberal-minded Lord Fitzwilliam, who came understanding it to be the wish of Pitt that the Catholic claims were to be conceded. He at once dismissed from office a rapacious office-holder named Beresford, so powerful that he was called the "King of Ireland"; he refused to consult Lord Chancellor Fitzgibbon or Foster, the Speaker; he took Grattan and Ponsonby into his confidence, and declared his intention to support Grattan's bill admitting Catholics to Parliament. The high hopes raised by these events were dashed to the earth when Fitzwilliam was suddenly recalled, after having been allowed to go so far without any protest from Portland, the home secretary, or from the premier, Pitt. The latter, disliking the Irish Parliament because it had rejected his commercial propositions in 1785, and disagreed with him on the regency in 1789, already mediated a legislative union, and felt that the admission of Catholics to Parliament would thwart his plans. He was probably also influenced by Beresford, who had powerful friends in England, and by the king, whom Fitzgibbon had mischievously convinced that to admit Catholics to Parliament would be to violate his coronation oath. Possibly, other causes concurred with these to bring about the sudden and disastrous change which filled Catholic Ireland with grief, and the whole nation with dismay. The new viceroy, Lord Camden, was instructed to conciliate the Catholic bishops by setting up a Catholic college for the training of Irish priests; this was done by the establishment of Maynooth College. But he was to set his face against all Parliamentary reform and all Catholic concessions. These things he did with a will. He at once restored Beresford to office and Foster and Fitzgibbon to favour, the latter being made Earl of Clare. And he stirred up but too successfully the dying embers of sectarian hate, with the result that the Ulster factions, the Protestant " Peep-of-Day Boys " and the Catholic " Defenders ", became embittered with a change of names. The latter, turning to republican and revolutionary ways, joined the United Irish Society; the former became merged in the recently [ when? ] formed Orange Society, taking its name from William of Orange and having Protestant ascendancy and hatred of Catholicism as its battle cries. Extending from Ulster, these rival societies brought into the other provinces the curse of sectarian strife. Instead of putting down both, the Government took sides with the Orangemen; and, while their lawless acts were condoned, the Catholics were hunted down. An Arms' Act, an Insurrection Act, an Indemnity Act, a suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act placed them outside the pale of law. An undisciplined soldiery, recruited from the Orange lodges, were then let loose among them. Martial law, free quarters, flogging, picketing, half-hanging, destruction of Catholic property and life, outrages on women followed, until at last Catholic blood was turned into flame. Then Wexford rose. Looking back, it now seems certain that, had Hoche landed at Bantry in 1796, had even a small force landed at Wexford in 1798, or a few other counties displayed the heroism of Wexford, English power in Ireland would, temporarily at least, have been destroyed. But one county could not fight the British Empire, and the rebellion was soon quenched in blood. Camden's place was then given to Lord Cornwallis, who came to Ireland for the express purpose of carrying a Legislative Union. Foster refused to support him and joined the opposition. Fitzgibbon, however, aided Cornwallis, and so did Castlereagh, who for some time had discharged the duties of chief secretary in the absence of Mr. Pelham, and who was now formally appointed to the office. And then began one of the most shameful chapters in Irish history. Even the corrupt Irish Parliament was reluctant to vote away its existence, and in 1799 the opposition was too strong for Castlereagh. But Pitt directed him to persevere, and the great struggle went on. On one side were eloquence and debating power, patriotism, and public virtue, Grattan, Plunket, and Bushe, Foster, Fitzgerald, Ponsonby, and Moore, a truly formidable combination. On the other side were the baser elements of in Parliament, the needy, the spendthrift, the meanly ambitious, operated upon by Castlereagh, with the whole resources of the British Empire at his command. The pensioners and placemen who voted against him at once lost their places and pensions, the military officer was refused promotion, the magistrate was turned off the bench. And while anti-Unionists were unsparingly punished, the Unionists got lavish rewards. The impecunious got well-paid sinecures; the briefless barrister was made a judge or a commissioner; the rich man, ambitious of social distinction, got a peerage, and places and pensions for his friends; and the owners of rotten boroughs to large sums for their interests. The Catholics were promised emancipation in a united Parliament, and in consequence many bishops, some clergy, and a few of the laity supported the Union, not grudging to end an assembly so bigoted and corrupt as the Irish Parliament. By these means Castlereagh triumphed, and in 1801 the United Parliament of Great Britain and Ireland opened its doors. Catholic Emancipation [ edit] The next quarter of a century was a period of unrequited hope. Dr. Troy, the Archbishop of Dublin, had been a strong advocate of the Union, and had induced nine of his brother bishops to concede a veto on episcopal appointments, not uncommon in European monarchies. In return, he wanted Emancipation linked with the Union. Castlereagh was not averse; but Pitt was publicly non-committal and vague, though the Catholic Unionists had no doubt that he favoured linking concession with passage of the Union thereby creating a totally new dispensation for a United Kingdom. Disappointment ensued when nothing was done in the first session of the United Parliament, and it was increased when Pitt resigned office and was succeeded by Addington, the narrow-minded Speaker. Cornwallis, however, assured Dr. Troy that Pitt had resigned, unable to overcome the reluctance of King George III, who believed it contravened the Act of Settlement, and his coronation oath. Pitt declared that he would never again take office if emancipation were not conceded. In spite of this, he became Premier again in 1804, no longer an advocate of emancipation having pledged never again to raise the question in Parliament during the lifetime of the king. To this pledge he was as faithful as he had been false to his former assurances; when Fox presented the Catholic petition in 1805, Pitt opposed it. After 1806, when both Pitt and Fox died, the Catholic champion was Grattan, who had entered the British Parliament in 1805. In the vain hope of conciliating opponents he was willing, in 1808, to concede the veto. Troy and the higher Catholics acquiesced. The other bishops were unwilling, and rejected the offer of a state-paid clergy or state-appointed bishops. The agitation of the question, however, did not cease, and for many years it distracted Catholic plans and weakened Catholic effort. Further complications arose when, in 1814, the prefect of the Propaganda, Quarantotti, issued a rescript favouring the veto. He acted, however, beyond his powers in the absence of Pius VII, who was in France. When the Pope returned to Rome, after the fall of Napoleon, the rescript was disavowed. In these years the Catholics badly needed a leader. John Keogh, the able leader of 1793, was then old, and Lords Fingall and Gormanstone, Mr. Scully and Dr. Dromgoole, were not the men to grapple with great difficulties and powerful opponents. An abler and more vigorous leader was required, one with less faith in petitions and protestations of loyalty. Such a leader was found in Daniel O'Connell, a Catholic barrister whose first public appearance in 1800 was on an anti-Unionist platform. A great lawyer and orator, a great debater, of boundless courage and resources, he took a prominent part on Catholic committees, and from 1810 he held the first place in Catholic esteem. Yet the Catholic cause advanced slowly, and, when Grattan died in 1820, emancipation had not come. Nor would the House of Lords accept Plunket's Bill of 1821, even though it passed the House of Commons and conceded the veto. At last O'Connell determined to rouse the masses, and in 1823, with the help of Richard Lalor Sheil, he founded the Catholic Association. Its progress at first was slow, but gradually it gathered strength. Murray, the new Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, joined it, and Dr. Doyle, the great Bishop of Kildare; other bishops followed; the clergy and people also came in; and thus rose a great national organization, supervising from its central office in Dublin subsidiary associations in every parish; maintained by a Catholic rent; watching over local and national affairs, discharging, as Mr. Canning described it, "all the functions of a regular government, and having obtained a complete mastery and control over the masses of the Irish people". The Association was suppressed in 1825 by Act of Parliament; but O'Connell merely changed the name; and the New Catholic Association with its New Catholic rent continued the work of agitation as of old. Nor was this all. By the Catholic Relief Act of 1793 the forty-shilling freeholders obtained the franchise. These freeholders were in the power of the landlords. Protected by a powerful association, and encouraged by the priests and by O'Connell, the freeholders broke free. In Waterford, Louth, Meath, and elsewhere they voted for the nominees of the Catholic Association at elections, and humbled the landlords. They returned O'Connell himself for Clare in 1828. The Tory ministers, Wellington and Peel, steered the passage of the Catholic Relief Bill of 1829. The forty-shilling freeholders, however, were temporarily disfranchised, and provisions excluding Catholics from some of the higher civil and military offices, prohibiting priests from wearing vestments outside their churches, bishops from assuming the titles of their sees, and clergy from obtaining charitable bequests. In other respects U. K. Roman Catholics were placed on a level with other denominations, and at last were fully admitted within to the benefits fruits of the constitution. The Irish Catholics had several grievances still calling for redress: the established state Church, landlordism, and educational inequality. Mr. Gladstone commenced with the Church of Ireland. He introduced a Bill disendowing and disestablishing it. Commissioners were appointed to wind it up, taking charge of its property, then computed at more than £15, 000, 000. Of this sum, £11, 000, 000, was given to the disestablished Church, part to the holders of existing offices, part to enable the Church to continue its work. A further sum of nearly £1, 000, 000 was distributed between Maynooth College, deprived of its annual grant, and the Presbyterian Church deprived of the Regium Donum, the latter getting twice as much as the former. The surplus was to be disposed of by Parliament for such public objects as it might determine. Free State and Republic (1922–present) [ edit] The Roman Catholic Church has had a powerful influence over the Irish state since its inception in 1922 although that influence has diminished somewhat in recent decades. The clergy's influence meant that the Irish state had very conservative social policies, banning, for example, divorce, contraception, abortion and pornography as well as encouraging the censoring of many books and films. In addition the church largely controlled the state's hospitals, schools and remained the largest provider of many other social services. With the partition of Ireland in 1922, 92. 6% of the Free State's population were Catholic while 7. 4% were Protestant. [9] By the 1960s, the Protestant population had fallen by half. Although emigration was high among all the population, due to a lack of economic opportunity, the rate of Protestant emigration was disproportionate in this period. Many Protestants left the country in the early 1920s, either because they felt unwelcome in a predominantly Catholic and nationalist state, because they were afraid due to the burning of Protestant homes (particularly of the old landed class) by republicans during the civil war, because they regarded themselves as British and did not wish to live in an independent Irish state, or because of the economic disruption caused by the recent violence. The Catholic Church had also issued a decree, known as Ne Temere, whereby the children of marriages between Catholics and Protestants had to be brought up as Catholics. Sexual abuse scandals [ edit] Since the early 1990s, the church in Ireland has been rocked by many cases of sexual abuse. Enquiries established that hundreds of priests had abused thousands of children in previous decades. In many cases, the abusing priests were moved to other parishes to avoid embarrassment or a scandal, assisted by senior clergy. By 2010 a number of in-depth judicial reports had been published, but with relatively few prosecutions. See Roman Catholic Church sexual abuse scandal in Ireland and Magdalene asylum Influence on Irish society [ edit] Ireland [ edit] Politics [ edit] In the Irish Free State, now Ireland, the church had a great influence on public opinion as it had supervised public education for about 90% of the population since at least the 1830s. Historically it was associated with the Jacobite movement until 1766, and with Irish nationalism after Catholic emancipation was secured in 1829. The church was resurgent between 1829 and the disestablishment of the Church of Ireland in 1869–71, when its most significant leaders included Bishop James Doyle, Cardinal Cullen and Archbishop MacHale. The hierarchy supported the democratic and mainly non-violent Irish Parliamentary Party in the 1880s, and its offshoots, and the policy of Irish Home Rule in 1886–1920. It did not support the Irish republican movement until 1921, as it espoused violence, in spite of support from many individual priests, and opposed the anti-Treaty side in the Irish Civil War. Despite this relative moderation, Irish Protestants were concerned that a self-governing Ireland would result in " Rome Rule " instead of home rule, and this became an element in the creation of Northern Ireland. Major popular church events attended by the political world have included the Eucharistic Congress in 1932 and the Papal Visit in 1979. The last prelate with strong social and political interests was Archbishop McQuaid, who retired in 1972. Education [ edit] After independence in 1922, the Church remained heavily involved in health care and education, raising money and running institutions which were staffed by Catholic religious institutes, largely because the new state remained impoverished. Its main political effect was to continue to run schools where religious education was a major element. The hierarchy opposed the free public secondary schools service introduced in 1968 by Donogh O'Malley, in part because they ran almost all such schools. Some have argued that the church's strong efforts since the 1830s to continue the control of Catholic education was primarily to guarantee a continuing source of candidates for the priesthood, as they would have years of training before entering a seminary. [10] Health care [ edit] From 1930 hospitals were funded by a sweepstake (lottery) with tickets frequently distributed or sold by nuns or priests [ citation needed]. On health matters it was seen as unsympathetic to women's needs and in 1950 it opposed the Mother and Child Scheme. Morality and censorship [ edit] It helped reinforce public censorship and maintained its own list of banned literature which influenced the State's list. Divorce allowing remarriage was banned in 1924 (though it had been rare), and selling artificial contraception was made illegal. The Church's influence slipped somewhat after 1970, impacted partly by the media and the growing feminist movement. For instance the Health (Family Planning) Act, 1979 showed the ability of the Catholic Church to force the government into a compromise situation over artificial contraception, though unable to get the result it wanted; contraception could now be bought, but only with a prescription from a doctor and supplied only by registered chemists. In the 1983 Amendment to the constitution introduced the constitutional prohibition of abortion, which the Church supported, though abortion for social reasons remains illegal under Irish statute law. However the Church failed to influence the June 1996, removal of the constitutional prohibition of divorce. While the church had opposed divorce allowing remarriage in civil law, its canon law allowed for a law of nullity and a limited divorce " a mensa et thoro ", effectively a form of marital separation. In a further repudiation of the church's teaching, on 22 May 2015, 62% of Irish voters approved the legalization of same sex marriage in Ireland. Northern Ireland [ edit] The Government of Ireland Act of 1920 acted as the constitution of Northern Ireland, in which was enshrined freedom of religion for all of Northern Ireland's citizens. [11] Here Roman Catholics formed a minority of some 35% of the population, which had mostly supported Irish nationalism and was therefore historically opposed to the creation of Northern Ireland. The Roman Catholic schools' council was at first resistant in accepting the role of the government of Northern Ireland, and initially accepted funding only from the government of the Irish Free State and admitting no school inspectors. Thus it was that the Lynn Committee presented a report to the government, from which an Education Bill was created to update the education system in Northern Ireland, without any co-operation from the Roman Catholic section in education. Instead, in regard to the Roman Catholic schools, the report relied on the guidance of a Roman Catholic who was to become the Permanent Secretary to the Minister of Education — A. N. Bonaparte Wyse. “ We hope that, notwithstanding the disadvantage at which we were placed by this action, it will be found that Roman Catholic interests have not suffered. We have throughout been careful to keep in mind and to make allowance for the particular points of view of Roman Catholics in regard to education so far as known to us, and it has been our desire to refrain as far as we could from recommending any course which might be thought to be contrary to their wishes. [12] ” — Lynn Commission report, 1923 Many commentators have suggested that the separate education systems in Northern Ireland after 1921 prolonged the sectarian divisions in that community. Cases of gerrymandering and preference in public services for non-Catholics led to the need for a Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association in 1967. Vatican II [ edit] In both parts of Ireland Church policy and practice changed markedly after the Vatican II reforms of 1962. Probably the largest change was that Mass could be said in vernacular languages and not in Latin, and in 1981 the Church commissioned its first edition of the Bible in Irish. Magnificent, beautiful, great interpretation, Dudamel is a genius

Movie stream an american in paris texas. Wow! I love this music. my senior year I'm high school we did an American in Paris as our field show in marching band. Gershwin is always a win. Movie Stream An American in paris. Movie stream an american in paris movie. Mis respetos. Excelente concierto. One of the best masterpiece created by human being. Bravo. The music is absolutely a gift from Heaven, as Beethoven himself asserts. Thank you to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for graciously sharing such a performance, one of the best I've enjoyed lately, and a visual treat as well! Bravissimi! However, I don't know who or what translated from German. I hope it was a robot. Aside from the huge gaps in the translation flow, probably due to repetition of words? Well. that's unusual. But then The Creator, to Whom Beethoven dedicates this music in gratitude for the beauty of Creation, is repeatedly referred to using the pronouns he and him without capitalizing the H. Now, I'm not even religious and find that so. well, such a faux-pas, for anyone involved with Arts and Culture. Regardless of one's beliefs, it is very disrespectful towards about half the people in the World, or more. And disrespectful towards Beethoven, his work and his music. Most shockingly it went unnoticed! I suggest someone ought to fix it. Thanks again though. I really enjoyed it.

The violin 🎻 soloist is amazeballs! Overall, the best version of my favorite classical piece. Pachelbel's canon Tchaikovsky's cannons. BAM! Beautifully done ending. Movie stream an american in paris 2017.

Movie stream an american in paris streaming. I had very high expectations on this movie. Not only was it one of Gene Kelly's best I also loved SINGIN' IN THE RAIN. It is a very good musical.
But AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is not really cutting the standards. Sure it is a funny movie, Gene Kelly is amazing and some of the sing & dance-numbers are great, but the love-story is, well, not flat, but un-interesting and I simply didn't belive it.
And compared to SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, this movie had no passion and joy. Well, it had passion and joy but not in a 1000 miles close to the love-to-life SINGIN' IN THE RAIN seemed to have.
So: I'm a bit dissapointed at this movie, but it still was good.

7/10.

Given some releases of the Lion King stream/edit, there's still a couple of misconceptions about the Simba/Kimba controversy, so here's a guide for anyone interested. I take the side that the Lion King die take inspiration from Kima, but hopefully there's enough primary source evidence to support this, and dispute it. If I've got anything wrong, or have any misinformation, let me know. THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT QUALITY OR WHICH IS BETTER, JUST THE FACTS OF THE CASE. I don't think the claims deserve to be dismissed as "completely bonkers", however overenthusiastic some Kimba fans might be (and they have exaggerated a bit). More importantly, this deals with company ethics and a wider view of the truth - if you want to have an opinion on this, here's the info you need. What is the allegation about? The allegation is that specific character design, and relationship and certain plot points from Kimba the White Lion / Jungle Emperor Leo were lifted for use without acknowledgment in Disney's The Lion King. The allegation has NEVER been that the entire plot was lifted (the Tezuka estate themselves said that they considered The Lion King a different story entirely, and would have been flattered by Disney's imitation - Tezuka was a Disney fan - if they had acknowledged it), and it has NOTHING to do with the name similarity (he was named Leo in the manga, while the name Kimba was a neologism of the Swahili word for Lion, "simba" and either KNBC who licensed the show, or the daughter of a producer named Kim. The fact that Kimba has wildly divergent plot elements not included in The Lion King - the dead dad's skin, the interaction with humans, delightful trips to Paris - are chalked down to the fact that Kimba is a series, TLK an 84 minute movie. As per Machiko Sakanata, who headed up a petition among Japanese ARTISTS for Disney to acknowledge similarities: "Nobody is claiming the stories are identical. However, when my observations first reached Disney, I was told abruptly that Disney had never heard of Kimba the White Lion. At least a subtitle paying homage to Tezuka, or a few lines paying respect to the origin of the story should be included" The Tezuka estate acknowledged the similarities, but refused to litigate due to the power of Disney's attorneys, as well as that Tezuka would have been honoured by inspiration (sure). The key similarities disputed are: The plot point of an exiled lion, with a dead father, must come of age to reclaim the throne from a usurper. During the childhood, he has a close relationship with a lioness cub. Said usurper being a dark furred, black maned lion with a scar over his left eye, and his control over the females of the tribe (named Claw in Kimba) The usurper's henchmen being comedy relief hyenas (two in Kimba, three in The Lion King) The young lion's advisers including a bird (a parrot in Kimba, a hornbill in TLK) a mandrill who performs sacerdotal duties, and a comedic warthog. A confrontation between Kimba and the usurper which leads to the hero dangling off a clip The hero's departed father's form appearing in a cloud to give advice. The design of pride rock and the elephant's graveyard, as well as the gathering of animals towards a rock and a benevolent king. What the hell even is Kimba? Kimba the White Lion begun as a manga by the undisputed father of Japanese animation, Osamu Tezuka, whose pioneering Astro Boy was the first anime broadcast in the USA. Kimba was the first colour anime ever broadcast, and was imported to the US to solid ratings success by KNBC in 1964-65. Portions of the show were cut to make a movie that premiered in Japan in 1966 and showed at the 1967 Venice film festival. The show was remade for Japanese in 1989, the same year a Jungle Emperor Leo film began production. In the interrim, a 50 minute OVA film came out in 1991. The dispute is generally over the inspiration of the TV show and the OVA. What is the evidence for inspiration? Various visual similarities between the two, going as far as shot choices, and as early as the development stage (notice in particular how Scar originally looked. (shows similar poses and shots, though annoyingly it doesn't date it or indicate which works its derived from) The fact that Simba was originally WHITE in conception Roger Allers year in Tokyo during a time where Kimba's father was a mascot for a prominent Tokyo baseball team, and Kimba himself appeared in various televised advertisements. He was NOT in Tokyo by the time the remake series aired, however) Roy Disney accidentally referring to Simba as Kimba in a memo Two of the lead animators on the film admitted to familiarity with Kimba, and Fred Ladd (who imported Kimba to the US) alleged at least one other animator was a known Kimba superfan, and there were Kimba masks in the Disney studio. Matthew Broderick's statement that he always thought he was signed on to do a Kimba remake of the show he knew as a kid (this point and the previous point catch Disney in a lie - they officially claimed nobody in production Disney sent a cease and desist letter for a showing of the 1997 film Jungle Emperor Leo at the 1997 Fantasia film festival - not only a disgusting move on their part, but it incriminates - IF THEY CLAIMED NO SIMILARITIES, WHY SEND A CEASE AND DESIST LETTER? That's basically an admission of guilt, in addition to sheer rotten will. But wait, would Disney ever do anything like this? Yes, they did it before and after - and either Katzenberg or Eisner was involved every single time. Aladdin took visual and character inspiration from a key character in The Thief and the Cobbler (Richard Williams and shown them footage as an audition reel for Who Framed Roger Rabbit), and later with the Nadia/Atlantis controversy. And when Katzenberg and Eisner split in one of the most acrimonious battles in Hollywood, Katzenberg made Antz, a move John Lasseter has always claimed was based on a meeting he had about A bug's life, which Katzenberg denies. A pattern, eh? Is there a similarity between Kimba and Disney's works? Yes, for several reasons - Osamu Tezuka was a massive Disney fan who watched Bambi over 50 times and wrote officially sanctioned manga versions of Bambi and Pinocchio. He partially wrote Kimba as a philosophical argument against elements of Bambi that he disagreed with. Osamu Tezuka in fact personally met his idol in the 50's. Hence the elements mentioned in the video relating it to Dumbo, The Jungle Book et al. What is Disney's defense? Disney has consistently maintained that it had no knowledge of Kimba the White Lion in any of its iterations, and that it formed no inspiration for The Lion King. They have also been open about its roots in Bambi, Hamlet and the book of Exodus (how this squares with Eisner's public announcement that it was a completely original work is up to you). Rob Minkoff has made the reasonable claim that if you're making an animal movie set in Africa, of course your character's will include baboons and hyenas - they're the inhabitants of the Savannah. The biggest piece of legal action Disney took was the cease and desist letter. To this day, Jungle Emperor Leo has not had a North American release. Sources NOTE: If you're gonna claim the videos are manipulative, you have to state your case, otherwise I have to take it on faith alone. It's okay to love The Lion King (I do! ), but it's not fair to laugh off these claims when one company is essentially bullying another, and I think in the interests of intellectual honesty, all the evidence has to be taken into consideration. I hope this is a fair enough overview to consult (a very fair video which take Disney's defense into serious account and talks about Kimba's unique qualities) (goes into fascinating detail about the behind the scenes process) (very crucially, it DATES the images) (details the story similaties) (shows similar poses and shots, though annoyingly it doesn't date it or indicate which works its derived from) I take the Kimba side of this debate, but u/PepiHopi has kindly linked to a series of videos arguing that it's much greyer or less overt than that.

Love this back for my sixth you for this amazing Symphony. Gustavo is a great conductor, I love how he uses his body and emotions while conducting. Movie stream an american in paris crossword.

What makes for Best Picture material? The Oscars have come in for a lot of stick for rewarding overblown spectacles that have aged poorly, and ignoring the "auteurs" who would be deified in decades to come. It wasn't because Hollywood was against art or creativity. The Academy Awards are the selections made by the industry itself, and that is why, at least in the classic era, they tended to reward the greatest collaborations, the most sensational meetings of creative minds.
The Arthur Freed unit at MGM had been bound for Oscar-winning glory for several years by this point; it was only a matter of time before Freed, aided by his strongest director Vincente Minnelli and some the finest musical stars in the business, would land a Best Picture. Freed had arguably done more to raise the status of the musical than anyone else, crafting pictures which wove story and song together without losing the dynamic spectacle of the 30s musicals. The point about Freed musicals, is that the lyrics of the songs, unlike those of Hammerstein or Lerner, don't have to tell or even relate to the stories. What's important is that the tone of the song and the way it is presented fit into the structure of the film.
An American in Paris was the first of three Freed musicals (the other two being Singin' in the Rain and The Band Wagon) which took existing classic numbers out of their original context and made them work in a completely unrelated story. The words don't fit the plot, but the routines fit the show. So, when Gene Kelly sings I Got Rhythm, he hasn't even got a girl yet, but the way it's done with the French kids joining in is a great bit of characterisation, and the upbeat tune and dance gives the movie the little lift it needs at this point. An American in Paris also uses the rule-breaking allowed in the genre to add little unconventional flights of fancy to tell the story, such as the series of dances which accompany the description of Leslie Caron's character.
And what better director for this project than Minnelli, himself a painter and a pianist? At this time there wasn't really anyone who had a better feel for Technicolor. While some directors would saturate each scene in one colour or fill the screen with clashing shades, Minnelli's colour schemes are tightly controlled but never look forced. In the opening scenes the tones are fairly muted, but not drab, and in particular there is an absence of red. During Oscar Levant and Georges Guetary's meeting in the café, a few more vibrant shades are introduced. Then, during the first musical number, By Strauss" Minnelli gradually brings in splashes of red – a table cloth, a bunch of roses – until it eventually dominates, as if the song has awoken the picture's colour scheme. For most of the songs, the colours are choreographed as intricately as the people. However, in some numbers, such as "Tra-la-la" he keeps the shades the same and instead opens out the space as the song swells up and the characters become more animated.
The Achilles' heel of An American in Paris is its story. I personally find the romantic angle particularly unpalatable, playing as it does like a last hurrah for the misogynistic love stories that reigned supreme in the 30s; the headstrong, independent woman gets rejected while the meek, delicate girl is harassed into loving the hero. Even if you don't mind that, it is difficult to connect emotionally with the story because it is constantly overshadowed by the songs and dances. Compare this to Singin' in the Rain, which doesn't really have as many great routines or memorable set-pieces as An American in Paris, but it has a winning storyline. Singin' in the Rain was overlooked at the 1952 Oscars, yet it is regarded as a classic of the genre today. But I think people sometimes forget that cinema is an all-encompassing form of visual entertainment, not just a means of telling a story. An American in Paris is not deep or engaging or tear-jerking but, like a certain DeMille picture that won the top award the following year, it certainly is a great show.

This makes me so happy. I love this music. Today is: Atheist Pride Day Today is a day for atheists to take pride in their beliefs, and to let others know of those beliefs if they have not yet done so. Atheists believe there are no deities, while those who are theistic believe some sort of deity exists. The word "a" in their name means "without". There is no set ideology in atheism—atheists may be humanists, rationalists, unitarian universalists, postmodernists, secularists, among other things. Greek and Roman philosophers and writers such as Epicurus, Democritus, and Lucretius had an influence on what would become atheism. The term didn't appear until the sixteenth century, a time when freethought and skepticism began to take root. Some that lived during the Age of Enlightenment were the first to identify themselves as atheists. The supremacy of human reason was an aspect of the French Revolution, and it was at this time that atheism first became used politically. Science also began to undermine religion during the second half of the nineteenth century. Atheists have a large number of reasons as to why they see religion as being bad. They may think people who believe in a higher power do not think rationally and are not self-reliant. Many believe religion divides people and causes things like war. They see the anti-democratic structure of most religions as being incongruent with human rights, and are opposed to how women and gay people are treated differently by many religious groups. They also may believe that religion hampers scientific research. There are multiple reasons and explanations why people are atheists: - They may believe they can live by moral codes without the aid of a god. They often live by the same moral code as those who are religious, but get to them without god, believing him to be unnecessary. - They may believe science can better explain existence than god can. This belief did not come about until just a few centuries ago, when scientific discoveries began being made. In particular, atheists see evolution as giving explanations about lifeforms and the earth, making god unnecessary. - They may believe religion is based on emotions, and that it makes people able to cope with fears that they may have, such as that life has no meaning and purpose, or that existence ends after death. - They see a lack of empirical evidence to support any religion or that god exists. They see the arguments for god as being unconvincing. - They follow "the problem of evil, " which questions how evil can exist when an all loving, knowing, and powerful god exists. - They follow the "argument for inconsistent revelations, " which says that with the existence of so many conflicting belief systems it is unlikely that god exists. - They see an inconsistency between the existence of god and a world where so many do not believe in his existence. This is called the "argument from nonbelief. " - They follow the "law of parsimony. " This law says that when problem-solving, one should choose the thing that makes the fewest assumptions. In the case at hand, atheism makes fewer assumptions than the belief in religion does. This means the burden of proof should be on the believer, not the nonbeliever. The one that thinks god exists should do the proving. - They are born into or live in a non-religious society. Communist China is one example of such a place. Others may be born into a religion but lose their faith over time. It is hard to estimate how many atheists are in the world. A 2015 poll claimed about 11% of the world's population are atheists, and a 2012 poll claimed the number to be 13%. These were both WIN/Gallup International polls. A BBC poll from 2004 put the number at 8%. Europe and Asia have the largest number of atheists. In 2015, 61% of Chinese citizens identified as atheists. National Applesauce Cake Day D-Day Beginning in the spring of 1940, in the midst of World War II, Nazi Germany started occupying the northern part of France. They gained complete control of the area in May, when the British evacuated Dunkirk, a coastal city, during the Battle of France. But the Allies always hoped to return. In 1942, the United States and Britain began thinking about an invasion across the English Channel. Hitler, anticipating an invasion somewhere—although he did not know exactly where—put Erwin Rommel in charge of defense of a large swath of coastal areas and in charge of the creation of an Atlantic Wall, which consisted of fortifications of bunkers, landmines, and other beach and water obstacles. The Allies codenamed their amphibious invasion of Normandy "Operation Overlord, " and placed Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in charge of it in January 1944. The invasion became known as D-Day, and its implementation would prove to be the start of the end of the war. The more obvious choice for the invasion was Pas de Calais, the spot with the shortest distance between Britain and Continental Europe. In fact, a deception campaign prior to D-Day made the Germans think that Pas de Calais—as well as Norway and some other locations—would be areas of invasion. Deception tactics included the use of fake equipment, George S. Patton's phantom army—which was supposedly stationed across from Pas de Calais, fraudulent radio transmissions, and double agents. The beaches of Normandy were chosen instead because they were less heavily defended than Pas de Calais, but were still within air cover. D-Day was originally scheduled for June 5, but it was pushed back a day due to bad weather. Eisenhower told his troops, "You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. " Five thousand ships, 13, 000 aircraft, and over 160, 000 American, British, and Canadian troops readied for invasion. Airborne operations started in the early morning hours of June 6, preceding the amphibious landing by about 5 hours. Over 13, 000 paratroopers from the U. S. 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, the British 6th Airborne Division, and the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion were dropped behind enemy lines and worked to secure bridges and exit roads. An additional 4, 000 men of the glider infantry landed using 500 gliders. The amphibious landing took place over a 50 mile stretch of beachfront in Normandy, on the French coastline. There were five beaches where the landing took place. From west to east they were Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. The Allies faced rather light resistance at all the beaches except Omaha. That beach was the most heavily defended of the five, and also had a difficult terrain consisting of bluffs and cliffs. Although the Allies achieved their objective of gaining a foothold on the continent, it was not without heavy losses. By some estimates, over 4, 000 Allied troops were killed, and another 5, 000 or so troops were wounded. The beaches were secured by June 11, and over 326, 000 troops had landed, as well as 50, 000 vehicles and 100, 000 tons of equipment. By the end of June, 850, 000 Allied troops and 150, 000 vehicles were on the continent. The Battle of Normandy lasted until late August when Paris was liberated and northern France was taken back from the Nazis. Preparations were then made to head towards Germany. The Germans were defeated in the Spring of 1945, and surrendered on May 8. All of this became possible because of the valiant efforts of those on D-Day! We remember them and their service and sacrifice today! Drive-in Movie Day Drive-in Movie Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the opening of the first patented drive-in movie theater. On June 6, 1933, Richard Hollingshead opened this drive-in theater, Park-in Theaters, in Pennsauken Township, close to Camden, New Jersey. The year before he had experimented in his driveway by putting a 1928 Kodak projector on his car hood, pinning a sheet to trees, and placing a radio behind the screen. He thought about ways to combat rain and how to space cars so everyone had a view. When his theater opened he charged 25 cents per car and 25 cents per person, but made sure no group paid more than a dollar. Four hundred cars could fit at the theater and the screen measured 40 by 50 feet. The first film shown was Wife Beware starring Adolphe Menjou. In 1946 there were still only 300 drive-ins in the United States, but in 1949 Hollingshead’s patent was overturned, which helped hasten the rise of drive-ins across the country. Between the late 1950’s and mid 1960’s drive-ins were at their zenith. By 1957, about 6, 000 were in operation in the United States. Many of these showed B-movies, but some showed the same films that were being played in walk-in theaters. Now there are less than 500 drive-in theaters remaining in the United States. This can be attributed to factors such as rising real estate rates in suburban areas, more walk-in theaters, and an increase in video rentals and streaming services. Also, most new films must be projected digitally and it is not feasible for many small theaters to be able to afford the thousands of dollars it costs to make this switch. National Higher Education Day National Hunger Awareness Day National Eyewear Day National Gardening Exercise Day This is a day to remember the physical benefits that are gained by gardening. All muscle groups can be used while gardening, and more strenuous garden activities can even be aerobic and build muscle. Hand dexterity is improved, and this is why gardening is sometimes prescribed as therapy for people recovering from strokes. Speaking of strokes, gardening lessens the chance of their occurrence, as well as the chances of heart disease. Stress and cortisol levels are reduced by gardening, and so is dementia. Gardeners have less of a chance of being obese, and their mood is improved by their hobby. There are countless other benefits that gardening provides. National Yo-yo Day National Yo-yo Day is dedicated to everything related to yo-yos, and takes place on June 6th, because that is the birthday of Donald F. Duncan, Sr., an entrepreneur credited with bringing the Yo-yo to prominence. Variations of the yo-yo have been around since the time of Ancient Greece, where they were made out of wood, metal, and painted Terra Cotta. The word yo-yo appeared in a Filipino dictionary in the early 1860’s, and they were introduced to the United States when Pedro Flores, a Filipino immigrant, started manufacturing them at the Yo-yo Manufacturing Company in Santa Barbara, California, in 1928. By 1929, Flores had opened other factories in California, and was making 300, 000 Yo-yos daily. Shortly thereafter, Donald F. Duncan, Sr. bought out Flores and began manufacturing yo-yos. Duncan had exclusive rights to the name “Yo-yo” until 1965, when a federal court of appeals ruled that “the trademark had become part of common speech. ” Yo-yos are popular all over the world, and many countries hold yo-yo contests. The World Yo-Yo Contest is the foremost of these. A typical yo-yo contest consists of two parts, a compulsory part where certain tricks are necessary, and a freestyle part where a contestant can do a routine of their choice. Russian Language Day National Moonshine Day Moonshine—which is often also known as white lightning, hooch, mountain dew, rotgut, firewater, skullpop, and Tennessee white whiskey—is a high-proof distilled spirit that is illegally made in its truest form. It often is about 150 proof, or about 75% alcohol by volume. Although it is illegal to make moonshine at home, we celebrate it today anyway. The name "moonshine" may come from "moonrakers, " a historic term for English smugglers. "Moonshining" in Britain also meant any job that was done at night. Americans may have adopted the term because the drink was made clandestinely or by the light of the moon. Early moonshiners often made it with rye or barley, but since the nineteenth century, almost all moonshine has been made with corn. A common recipe for it is cornmeal, sugar, yeast, and water. During Prohibition, white sugar was often used in place of cornmeal. Moonshine is clear because it is not aged in oak barrels like whiskey is. Aging in barrels also mellows whiskey out, and as moonshine doesn't use this process, it has a kick to it. Bad batches of moonshine can be harmful to humans. In the past, some unsafe materials were sometimes added to it to give it a bigger kick, which also made it dangerous. Throughout history, moonshine has sometimes been made to avoid taxes, and at other times has been made to circumvent full bans on alcohol. In America, moonshine was first made in Pennsylvania and other states where grain was an important commodity. The extra grains from harvest were distilled so they wouldn't go to waste. In 1791, a tax on liquor known as a "whiskey tax" was implemented in the United States. Three years later, the Whiskey Rebellion broke out in Pennsylvania and President Washington sent in 13, 000 troops to bring order. The tax was repealed in 1801. Moonshining still continued after the Whiskey Rebellion and was common in Kentucky, Virginia, the Carolinas, and in Southern states. The alcohol is still often associated with the South today. Prohibition went into effect in 1920, which actually helped moonshiners, as there was no longer legal alcohol that could be purchased—their market greatly expanded and there was much more demand. But with the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, demand went way down and continued to do so over the years. Today moonshining is rare. Some "moonshine" is nowadays sold in stores, and follows a similar recipe as the bootleg kind, but is not illegal. Happy Celebrating.

Movie stream an american in paris youtube. Youtube, a video-sharing platform where creators can create videos for varying audiences to watch and enjoy. It is home to artists, filmmakers, animal loves, advocates, musicians, dancers, singers, storytellers, scientists, athletes, and several others of different ages. However, during the past fifteen years, we have seen changes that became less beneficial for long-time content creators and more favorable for well-established companies. Despite these changes, Youtube remains the top video-sharing website and social media platform, attracting millions of visitors and users every minute. For every person, many are fans of Michael Jackson, the legendary King of Pop. For some, the MJ fandom is broken down into tiers. The top tier is the tribute artists. They are the people that not only impersonate him but also emulate his dance and perform some of his hit songs. Only a few tribute artists have gone above and beyond to create their original music and videos. Second is the Michael Jackson impersonators. Third-tier includes mega-fans. The fourth-tier has average fans and the new generation of fans. Of course, there are Michael Jackson "stans"; fans that worship him as a demigod. They also believe he is this perfect human being. In reality, Michael was human and had made mistakes during his lifetime. Yes, he is the victim of the false allegations of child molestation in 1993, in 2003, and even in death, he is still innocent in 2019. Many soldiers of love (old and new, including myself) have been under attack for disagreeing with a stan in regards to anything related to Michael Jackson for several years. All for different opinions including but not limited to; not having the same favorite songs or albums. However, that does not measure what the MJ conspiracy theorists are currently doing to the community as a whole. The conspiracy theories about Michael these theorists put out on Youtube are messed up. First off, you got the people like Pearl Jr who hard-core believe Michael's death was a hoax with evidence to back up. You have other people who support the theory that musician B-Howard is Michael's love child. However, there is one theorist that tramples all the usual theorists you see online. One man that has gone on to claim that his theory is Michael's actual true story. One man that claims that his story makes him the only legit Michael Jackson fan that matters and thus, the only fan Michael has ever had. One man that goes as far as attacking other people for their beliefs, opinions, or debunks him. That man runs a Youtube channel called An American Scheme. You all may be wondering, who is the creator behind An American Scheme? What theory is he trying to force down as fact? Why do many people like myself ban from Youtube and have several lawsuits against him? Allow me to explain. John Odinham is the man behind this infamous Youtube channel. A forty-seven-year-old man that created his channel in August 2017 to share what he calls Michael Jackson's "true story. " The story covers the theory of Michael Jackson's legitimacy as a member of the famous Jackson family and how his story is tied to the history of Motown Records. His close friendliness to one of his old friends and fellow musician Diana Ross and much more. In other words according to John, Michael was given to the Jackson family by Diana Ross and William Smokey Robinson who are supposedly his biological parents. According to John, this story of his begins in 1957. Michael's parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson had twins Marlon and Brandon in March. Sadly, because of the complications during the premature delivery, Brandon died within twenty-four hours after he was born. In August of that year, Smokey Robinson, then seventeen at the time auditions for Brunswick Records but does not get sign to the label. However, he does meet Barry Gordy, the future founder of Motown Records and the two would strike up a friendship and partnership. They would make Motown Records and Barry was most impressed with Smokey's songwriting talent. Also, Smokey was in a committed relationship at the time. Thirteen-year-old Diana Ross had just moved back to the Detriot area. The two of them lived on the same street for several years and Diana considered Smokey her first real love. Around November or December, Diana manages to seduce Smokey with her good looks and charm. Going into 1958, Diana finds out she is pregnant and she is only a young teenager and Smokey, now eighteen was the father. According to John, the sign of her pregnancy was that she transferred to Cass Techincal High School to pursue fashion. Once the news of Diana's pregnancy gets to Barry Gordy and got whim of who the father was, he was furious. With Smokey being the father of Diana's child, he could no longer work with him, their partnership was doomed, and Motown would essentially end before it even began. Then, Barry gave him a solution. Diana would carry the baby to term but once he was born, he would be given to another family for them to raise him. That family so happened to be the Jacksons family because supposedly, Barry and Joe Jackson were old confidants with their shared passions in music and boxing, according to John. Michael is born on August 29th, 1958 and is promptly given to the Jacksons. We pretty much know what happens next. Motown is officially founded in January 1959, Smokey forms his group called the Miracles, and Diana joins the Primettes later known as the Supremes. Michael and older brother Marlon would join their older brothers, Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine then called the Jackson Brother in 1964 now called The Jackson 5 and then The Jacksons from the mid-1970s onward while as having a tough upbringing at the hands of Joe Jackson. The brothers are signed to Motown after several talent shows, small gigs at strip clubs, and an audition tape was sent in 1968 where it was view by not just Barry Gordy himself, but also Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson. We all know the success of the Jacksons, they produced four number 1 singles including "I Want You Back" and "I'll Be There", and Michael's cute and innocent persona and raw talent made the Jackson family a household name. The brothers would stay with Diana in her home in LA for the early years of their music career and Michael got to spend some time with her alone, he had a schoolboy crush on her (and who wouldn't). Around 1970, Diana drops the bombshell of Michael's parentage, she is his real mom and Michael is her first child, but then again, Michael is a Jackson now. The world and life Michael knew up to this point was a lie. The family he was raised in was not his real family. His real parents had, according to John, orphan Michael to the mercy of the Jackson family and to Barry Gordy. Now, Michael had to commit to living a fantasy for his personal life. He became afraid of being intimate with a woman, thus his marriages being a sham and his two eldest children were products of sperm donors; Macaulay Culkin, the star of Home Alone, the biological father of Michael's second child and only daughter. This was why Michael associated himself with Peter Pan and Neverland. This was why Michael made several mistakes in his lifetime. This was the real reason why Michael was innocent of the allegations. Newsflash, the story is nothing more than a theory. I included the so-called "true story" that John presents in less than 20% of his content is just a well put together theory. John claims to have discovered this story while watching "Lady Sings the Blues", Diana Ross' first film she ever starred. The so-called evidence that supports his story is insufficient. Interviews and films he uses, and just Michael's physical appearance compared to Diana and Smokey and the physical appearances of the Jackson family does not support the story. The supposed subliminal messages in Michael top songs as an adult that John likes to point out that all connect to his story and to Motown's history as they are all about Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson, especially with the song "Billie Jean" has no connection. Especially with the hit off of Thriller, Michael explained the meaning behind the song and the history as it was about a stalker who was claiming he was the father of her child. Plus, the big elephant in the room is no DNA evidence is presented. Within the six months since I found this channel, I know this channel must be shut down by Youtube. John and his small group of supporters are delusional. John believes he is above DNA and is the one the matters in this world and the MJ community are the same as the MJ guilty cult. I notice in many of the videos he makes about Michael Jackson fans, he keeps claiming that we are all fake fans, frauds, thieves, losers, slaves, etc. for not believing him. He has made racist and homophobic comments towards tribute artists like Michael Trapson, manipulated video clips by content creators to fit his agenda and argument that we are trying to make money of off Michael, cyberstalking other creators like JD, creator of HIStory in the Mix, Ashley Ann, Danielle Pozzini aka Dani MJJ, Danny Wu, creator of the Square One MJ documentary, Kirsta MJ, MJFANGIRL TV, Jackson passion(her real name is Mary), etc., has claimsed that MATTSFTR is no advocate of Michael's despite Matt being on Youtube since its beginnings and still continues to support him, and Razorfist, another MJ advocate and creator of the MJ rebuttal series is a crack head. He has also targeted young MJ fans like Nicholas Stohler, Jacob Wells, JaylenYTGaming, Lane aka The Smooth Criminal, Chelsea Taylor Jackson, Theresa Loves Michael Jackson and Harry Styles, Moonwalker Forever, and Ashley Off The Wall. Jaylen and Moonwalker Forever were the ones that first brought John and his channel An American Scheme to everyone's attention, then Lane made a rant about him, then another MJ fan, Konrad, made several videos exposing John as the fake MJ fan, and Matt making video responses to John, basically debunking him in the process. Although some MJ fans had made their truce with John, some have not. John has also attacked me in the comments of his video that was supposedly exposing Trapson as a fraud calling me the same things he always does (when in reality he is all these things), attacked me again in the comments of Konrad's video exposing him because I made a comment about him having other social media platforms, and most recently, replied to my reply of a comment on Matt's most recent video about him asking me if I lived in a trailer with mold in it (the second one, Konrad deleted the video in question, and the third John deleted all his comments on Matt's video). John has also committed other community guideline violations including on video where he talked about a vision he had of Ashley Ann dying in a fire and also crushing on young female MJ fans like Kirsta and Chelsea. He has even committed cyber sexual harassment in the comments and has also made an insensitive video about another young female MJ fan's family. As for the Jackson family, John has also made horrid comments about them, calling them untalented and claiming Michael ha the real talent, his sister Janet is nothing more than an impersonator (which she's not), called Michael's niece and nephew frauds, and worse, he has called Michael's eldest son, Prince a spoiled brat, Michael's daughter Paris a drug addict, and Bigi, Michael's youngest son and child, mentally challenged. Not to mention that he has trolled on their Youtube channel, Film Family promoting his non-sensical story while also making inappropriate comments. John has also poked at Pearl Jr, the woman who believes Michael's still alive. He even assumes MJ fans that move to different channels are "fake like he's been telling everyone all along", most recently was when Danielle announced she was moving channels to do other content other than Michael Jackson, the Beatles, Queen, etc. and John claimed she has been fake all along (all because she did not look at his story). In reality, I have watched her video and she states she is still a Michael Jackson fan, she just wants to do other content and there's no problem with that. For me, I do not even blame them for not engaging with John and his channel. This is not because they do not want to talk to him like John likes to believe and blocks him and thinks everyone is attacking him first (it's the other way around). It is because they 1. ) Know he is a horrible person 2. ) Know about the bullying, threating, and borderline psychotic he posts 3. ) They do not agree with his story What is even worse is that John has proven himself to not be a Michael Jackson fan at all besides his claims of being the only MJ fan on the planet for over 40 years and is the only true fan at that. He has made videos calling MJ wacko and a pedo while in others, he's defending him and believes that all MJ fans are just on the bandwagon. Even some of his supporters target us, especially the generation z MJ fans because some of us including myself became MJ fans after his death and questioning us of where were we when Michael was still alive. I made this clear, I wasn't a spark in my mother's eye in 1993, and I was finishing up first grade in 2005 during the trial era thus I was too young at the time. MATTSFTR has been advocating for Michael since Youtube was founded, being the first MJ advocate to do so. It is unfortunate the John and his channel are still on Youtube and I am still shocked that Youtube has done nothing to take his channel down and given him a lifetime ban. I am still shocked that Michael's family the Jacksons, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Barry Gordy, and some of Michael's friends that are still sticking by him to this day have not spoken about John nor the defamation videos he makes. For me, he should have stuck to sports gambling only to help take care of his ailing father (the latter being the only thing I respect him for). I do respect his passion for his story too but that is no excuse to make hurtful videos about everyone in and out of the MJ community because simply, we do not agree with him. Many of his rant videos he mostly does not make sense at all. It is quite a shame that his channel is still up and still active. Also YouTube is part of the blame for their blocking system. John is still able to access the channels and videos of the people he attacks despite many of them blocking him because according to YouTube, when you block someone they cannot comment on your videos nor send you private messages. One person made a video about how YouTube's blocking system should be similar to Facebook's where once you block someone, they can no longer see your page or anything you post aside from commenting and private messaging. The younger MJ fans have threaten legal action against John for putting their videos of them debunking him into his videos where he always twists them and blows them out of proportion. Pearl Jr only gave him one copyright strike, another person reported the first video he did on MATTSFTR and as a result, gave John a community guidelines strike for harassment and bullying. As of this writing, both strikes have expired. For all the video and movie clips he uses in his videos as well as stealing portions of videos and live streams MJ fans and content creators have made just to twist their words to fit his narrative on top of the other community guidelines violations he has committed that YouTube fails to notice, that is not fair use at all. I feel that YouTube is treating John with high regards similar to Logan Paul after his infamous scandal. Most likely, John is paying YouTube to not take down his channel (since he makes money while being a sports gambler). His supporters are no good either. They support his story for one thing. Two is that they are people that do not have any videos on their channels yet relay information to John in the comments of his videos, information and evidence that "supports" John's story. One person even talks like John in the comments. Although there are supporters of his that do not agree with everything John says, it's these people like Alan Kozak and James L (two of John's top supporters) that agree with him, worshiping him like God himself. Michael did not spread the word of hate. He spread honesty, truth, love, and compassion to everyone. Through his music, his humanitarianism, his innocent, and his bravery to all of us fans and even non fans most recently. Unfortunately, John is destroying it. For me, first thing is YouTube needs to terminate his channel for all the violations mentioned and ban him for a lifetime. Once the ban and termination is complete, that will give the MJ fans and content creators including myself to speak out about him publicly about his trolling and hatefulness and two faced persona in the comments of his videos and in the videos themselves of they wish. Next is the defamation suit from the content creators, most notable would be Trapson, Danny Wu, and Razorfist (once he reacts to John's behavior and debunks him) on behave of everyone. At this point, all this will trend on social media and starts to make the headlines. John's story and the defamation suits against him. Then there is the DNA testing from Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson to compare their samples to Michael's DNA and his DNA to his siblings and that of Joe and Katherine (his real parents). Either proven or disproven, the Jacksons (including Michael's children), Ross', Robinson's, the estate, and everyone that was close to Michael will sue John for defamation and copyright. Whether or not his story is officially proven or disproved by DNA, he claims that his lifes work is done (out in the open or slammed the shut). Before I conclude this, what are all of your thoughts on An American Scheme its creator John? Has he trolled your channels promoting his story and called you filthy names and made nasty comments? Let me know in the comments.

Aaah this was great to watch again. (CNN) "The Rhythm Section" can't quite get its act together. Featuring a solid performance by Blake Lively, it's not bad exactly, but plays like a malnourished Jason Bourne wannabe, crossed with the grittier side of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. " The script was adapted by Mark Burnell from his own novel, and directed by Reed Morano, an Emmy winner for "The Handmaid's Tale. " The producers, meanwhile, preside over the James Bond franchise, a pedigree that's leveraged heavily in the film's ad campaign. The result, however, plays like a pallid version of the globetrotting spy thrillers with which we're accustomed, and limbos under the bar of what's expected in terms of action and suspense. The plot is the most basic of revenge yarns, with Lively playing Stephanie Patrick, a woman whose life was turned upside down by a plane crash that killed the rest of her family. When she's informed three years later by an investigative journalist (Raza Jaffrey) that the tragedy was no accident, but rather a terrorist strike, she embarks on a mission of vengeance, describing herself as someone who has "got nothing to lose. " Of course, she'll need help, and finds it, grudgingly, in a financial benefactor, and a former MI6 agent (Jude Law) who subjects her to the basic training -- a process that doesn't take that long but still feels too drawn out. Once in the field, Stephanie's exploits have a certain freshness because she's such novice at this sort of cloak-and-dagger fare that she makes a mess of things, and her early encounters are more brutal and raw -- and thus distinctive -- than the highly stylized and choreographed movie fights and chases with which we're familiar. Stephanie's pursuit of the perpetrators leads to an information broker (Sterling K. Brown), who seemingly points her in the right direction. As constructed, though, the various episodes have an arbitrary, willy-nilly feel to them, lurching from one deadly scenario to the next, instead of following a clear path. Lively's name is particularly ironic here, since she plays Stephanie -- a recovering addict -- as someone with a fidgety, hollow-eyed deadness inside her, seeking to kill those responsible without any expectation that extracting an eye for an eye will heal her wounded soul. The notion of an ordinary person thrust into such dire circumstances has a well-worn history, as Stephanie discover her capacity to inflict and endure pain along with the audience. There's also been a greater emphasis on building such vehicles around women, including recent examples like "Peppermint" and "Miss Bala, " starring Jennifer Garner and Gina Rodriguez, respectively. The title "The Rhythm Section" comes from the coaching Stephanie receives in her transformation, and finding the balance and calm to fulfill her mission. It's too bad that the movie isn't equally well tuned. "The Rhythm Section" premieres Jan. 31 in the US. It's rated R.

The state of Hollywood in 2019. All films must have at least 2 Mary Sue man-kicking characters and all baddies must be male. Don't worry about plot or character development, just make sure there is plenty of virtue signalling and all minority groups get screen time. Goddamn I did not recognize Anne. This looks amazing. The trailer took a turn that i wasnt expecting right when i was about to click off the video. O.k he went to high school for 5 yrs. did any one else catch that LMAOFF 😅.

The return of masculine movie really stands out because it celebrates two things Hollywood hates today: men and success speaks to the fact that we just dont see movies like this today. The Rhythm Section was released in the United States on January 31, 2020, by Paramount Pictures. Premise [ edit] Stephanie Patrick is a woman who seeks to uncover the truth behind a plane crash that killed her family three years earlier. [1] Patrick was also meant to be on the flight. After she discovers that the crash was not accidental, she embarks on a mission to track down those responsible by assuming the identity of an assassin. [4] Cast [ edit] Blake Lively as Stephanie Patrick Jude Law as Iain Boyd Sterling K. Brown as Marc Serra Max Casella as Leon Giler Daniel Mays as Dean West Geoff Bell as Green Richard Brake as Lehmans Raza Jaffrey as Keith Proctor Tawfeek Barhom as Reza David Duggan as David Patrick Production [ edit] On August 16, 2017, it was reported that Paramount Pictures had acquired the rights to the film. [5] It has a production budget of around $50 million and is produced by EON Productions, the film company known for producing the James Bond films. [1] Principal photography on the film began in December 2017 in Dublin, Ireland. [6] Production was halted temporarily after Lively was injured on the film set, with filming scheduling to begin again in June. [7] Sterling K. Brown joined the film, as production resumed in Spain in mid-2018. [8] In July 2018, the film was shot in Almería with Law and Lively. [9] [10] Release [ edit] The film was originally scheduled to be released on February 22, 2019 but was pushed back to November 22, 2019 following Lively's on-set injury, and later again to January 31, 2020. [11] [12] Reception [ edit] Box office [ edit] In the United States and Canada, the film was released alongside Gretel & Hansel, and was originally projected to gross $9–12 million from 3, 049 theaters in its opening weekend. [13] However after making just $1. 2 million on its first day (including $235, 000 from Thursday night previews), projections were lowered to $3 million. [14] It went on to debut to just $2. 8 million, marking the worst opening weekend ever for a film playing in over 3, 000 theaters. [15] Critical response [ edit] On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 33% based on 110 reviews, with an average rating of 4. 74/10. The website's critical consensus reads: "Blake Lively delivers an impressive lead performance, but The Rhythm Section plods predictably through a story that could have used some flashier riffs. " [16] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score 44 out of 100, based on 35 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews". [17] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "C+" on an A+ to F scale, and PostTrak reported it received an average 2. 5 out of 5 stars, with 35% of people saying they would definitely recommend it. [15] Writing for Variety, Peter DeBruge stated that Blake Lively–unlike the protagonists in Atomic Blonde, Red Sparrow and La Femme Nikita –displayed "near-incompetence in the face of danger [that] makes her relatable in ways very few cinematic assassins have ever been. I always thought it was odd they never attempted to pimp a pistonhead's car where they actually would have had to put in some effort. This is inspiring after going insane doing a tech bootcamp lol. I was not expecting this kind of a film when I read the title... Love a good flop story.

Free movie hope gap 2016. 👑 styles p King. Thank you William Nicholson for saving my Dinard Film Festival 2019. After viewing several so un-innovative "real stories" Red Joan, Fisherman's Friends) and "social realism" films (The Last Tree, VS - even though VS's world of rap battles was fascinating) I was getting really disappointed in British cinema.
Hope Gap made up for all that. It is beautifully acted (Annette Bening is extraordinary) deep and subtle, and does carry you away.

Unas cervecitas con mi madre con esta buena canción! Saludos a todos los que la escuchan en este 2019. Free movie hope gap ar. Free movie hope gap arkansas. Free Movie Hope. Free movie hope gap full. Bendiciones para todos mis hermanos. I don't no where this kind of simple English movies has gone by. It's now always Marvel, DC, Pixar and SciFi space Crap. Good old English movie. As it meant to be. So the nicest man in the world is being played by the nicest man in the world. I’m subscribed to like 4 subs or something... and somehow i posted this on the wrong one. So second try... Having finished Bingo a couple of weeks back I thought I'd post my card with some quick summaries/reviews for people nearing the end of their cards and looking for help filling some gaps. Maybe I got lucky, maybe I'm a generous critic, I dunno, but I believe I was blessed with the books this year. Pushed out of my comfort zone in many cases and totally worth it! There were heaps that I loved. There were none that I hated. My TBR list has now become totally unmanageable with all the discoveries I've made. -------------- Slice of Life/Small scale Fantasy: The Goblin Emperor (Katherine Addison). Follows a half goblin thrust into the role of emperor after his estranged father and brothers are all suddenly killed in an airship accident. Follows Maia as he learns his way around court and tries to be good. This was a fantastic read. Not an awful lot happens, but it happens in a way that kept me interested, and it has a tremendously satisfying ending. SFF Novel Featuring a Character With a Disability: The Books of Babel (Josiah Bancroft - A major character becomes an amputee). Follows a newly married man as he takes his wife on a honeymoon at the fabled Tower of Babel... And soon loses her. Great writing, and while it's a slow start this becomes a tense and well plotted read. Take The Magical Faraway Tree, drop some acid or other psychadelic, and throw it all in a steampunk setting. I loved a lot of the books I read in Bingo. This was right near the top. SFF Novella: The Gurkha and the Lord of Tuesday (Saad Hossain). A djinn has been imprisoned under a mountain in the Himalayas and manages to get free. He hooks up with a quiet gurkha and they journey to a future Kathmandu that is controlled by an AI known as Karma. It's a novella, so it's short. I wish it was longer as I loved it. It's also a rollercoaster of a ride and grossly underrated. No excuses people, read it. Self Published SFF Nove l: A Canticle of Two Souls (Steven Raaymakers). Follows a young man/teen with a cursed sword and a girl with the power to control emotions. Essentially, it follows two very damaged people as they begin to heal each other. A first time novel from a young writer that shows some real promise. Some minor pacing issues, and the violence was a little stylistic for my tastes (although definitely within the tastes of many). Worth a look for more prolific readers, and I'll be checking out other work from the author. SFF Novel Featuring Twins: Blaze (Krista D Ball). Follows the daughter of a god who is confronted by her twin sister. The twin is... not a nice person. To put it mildly! I think I saw Krista say this was her first novel, and she has developed a lot as a writer since. She holds herself to a high standard then as the pacing and plotting in this was great, and the characters were distinct and interesting. Krista is now firmly on the TBR pile. Novel Featuring Vampires: The Golden (Lucius Shepard). A mystery novel featuring vampires. The Golden is a specially bred human who is to be drank from in a special ceremony that only happens every few hundred years... And she's been killed. I have never been a fan of vampires - the sexuality I find cringy, the aloof personalities, etc... And this was no exception. One sex scene in particular made me cringe and skip paragraphs. But that's a personal taste thing that I've had from pretty much every vampire book, movie or tv show. So I can't say whether others would like this or not. Shepard can write, and I didn't find it hard to finish, it just wasn't for me. Graphc Novel: Transmetropolitan (Warren Ennis). Follows a gonzo style journalist navigating a futuristic metropolis. A real mixed bag. The style was not my thing - very turn of the century the way it depicts what is "cool", and it tries hard to be cool. But there were some stories around body dismorphia that were genuinely thought provoking and ahead of their time, and there was one story in particular of a lady who awakens from cryogenic preservation that was... well, it was brilliant. Genuinely moving. SFF Novel by a Local to You Author: The Shadow of What Was Lost (James Islington). Turns out he lives about 30 minutes from me, which is cool. Very well done epic/dark fantasy. Too much going on to summarise. Get's a lot of love here, and it's all deserved. SFF Novel Featuring an Ocean Setting: The Scar (China Mieville). A floating city aims to capture a leviathan from another realm for purposes unknown. This has all the elements that Mieville is known for, in a very unique setting with a cast of diverse characters. I can only handle Mieville in small doses, but jeez those small doses are good. It wasn't as good as Perdido Street Station, but what is? Still great. Cyberpunk: Altered Carbon (Richard Morgan). Ridiculously wealthy man essentially kidnaps a special forces style agent to investigate whether his previous body ("sleeve") was murdered. I can see why this is popular. And there were sections that I found very hard to put down. But overall... A bit too "pop" for my tastes. 2nd Chance: The Lions of Al Rassan (Guy Gavriel Kay). A bit complex to summarise... I had previously read Tigana and just didn't like it. Don't ask why, it just wasn't my thing. This was better but... still not my thing. I can see why people love GGK, but I just can't get into him. I think it's the emotional stuff - it feels too manipulative to me and I don't find myself caring enough to feel upset about stuff that clearly I'm supposed to... I dunno... Sorry. It's me, not GGK. Afrofuturism: Parable of the Sowers (Octavia Butler). Follows a young girl in a near future dystopia America (set about now I think, but it was written a while ago). This was genuinely scary as it seems remarkably prescient. Even the president was named (from memory) Donner... There is a strong element of hope in a hopeless world, and this was hard to read emotionally. But it was really, really good. Octavia is right near the top of the TBR list. SFF Novel Published in 2019: Holy Sister (Mark Lawrence). It's well known enough here that I don't need to summarise. Lawrence is one of my favourite authors, if not my favourite. His series are all very different, and all fantastic. I cried. I laughed. I couldn't put it down. Middle Grade SFF Novel: The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents (Terry Pratchett). Some rats and a cat ingest magic and become intelligent. As you would, they use this intelligence to start scamming communities of humans. I've owned this book for 10+ years. And never read it. Why? Madness. It was brilliant. It's the first Pratchett novel I've read since he passed, and that was hard for me. This really drilled home what we lost with his passing. A book aimed at kids that says more about people than half the stuff with "literature" in the description. A personal recommendation: Priest of Bones (Peter McLean). Gang leader returns from war to find his turf has been taken over. I can't recall who recommended this to me (it was a daily recommendation thread), but it was bang on point. This book is my bread and butter, in the mold of Lynch, Abercrombe, etc. Good stuff. Read-along Book: Blood Tartan (Raymond St Elmo - was a RAB book of the month). The cover says a lot, but I'm not sure what exactly. The book says a lot more. Follows Rayne Grey, also known as the Seraph, a spadassin... Whatever that means. He's quickly become one of my favourite characters, and St Elmo can write, like, really well. Much like me. Seriously though, he can write. He paints one hell of a city, and some seriously memorable scenes, and there's vampires which I hate BUT I STILL LOVED IT. So yeah. If you've seen him on here and thought "what a curious character this guy is" then check out his books. Media Tie In Novel: Horus Rising (Dan Abnett). Traces the fall of the empire, 10, 000 years before the age of Warhammer 40k, as we see chaos insert itself into human affairs. This was the category I was least looking forward to, but I devoured this... then went and read the next two. The only issue is there are 50 something novels in this series, and they ain't cheap - even the kindle editions. I want to know what happens, but I just can't put that much investment into something... And I say that as someone who's read Malazan three times and will read it again. But goddamn they were entertaining Novel featuring an AI character: A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (Becky Chamber). Follows a group of space ship operators tasked with opening a portal to a previously hostile race in the centre of the galaxy. But really, we're following the stories of the characters on the ship. Damn good book. DAMN good. Genuinely uplifting. SFF Novel That Has a Title of Four or More Words: Sir Thomas the Hesitant and the Table of Less Valued Knights (Liam Perrin). Follows Thomas as he becomes a knight to try and save his imprisoned brother and his village. Also features a hilarious King Arthur and Merlin. Another book that leaves you feeling good - Thomas has to deal with some genuinely bad people, but does it in a way that is genuinely good. If you're looking for something positive and fun, check it out. Retelling: The Gospel of Loki (Joanne M Harris). Tells the classic Norse stories from Loki's perspective. An interesting take, and the stories were well told. Loki has a few annoying traits (i. e. referring to himself as your humble narrator) but mostly good. I'd only ever read Norse Mythology by Gaiman before this, so the stories weren't stale and I enjoyed it. SFF Novel by an Australian Author: Sabriel (Garth Nix). Young Lady has to take over the role of Abhorsson after her father disappears. Some great creativity and scary monsters, well paced and an interesting plot. Aimed at a younger reader than me, but I can see why this is popular and will check out more. The Final Book of a Series: Crowfall (Ed McDonald). The dead kings are coming, Crowfoot is missing, and Ryhalt Galharrow is in a pit of depression and finding himself in the mysery. It's an interesting choice for self discovery by Ryhaly, but he's always been slef destructive. I'm well documented as a huge fan of this series. The noir feel, the sheer creativity (the mysery! the nameless! the deep kings! darlings! ), and of course, my kindred spirit Ryhalt Galharrow. Can't recommend enough for people who like darker settings, troubled characters, but layered themes of hope and love. READ IT! DON'T FUCK THIS UP!! #OwnVoices: An Unkindness of Ghosts (Rivers Solomon). A colony spaceship has become highly stratified, and a young woman is trying to uncover a mystery that could free her from the opression. This was a tough read, emotionally, and in a rather poor case of planning I read this right after A Parable of the Sowers. But it was a very worthwhile read. I've seen criticism that it's a bit "black and white" - the powerful are all bad. I feel that was a shallow interpretation. We are seeing this from the persepective of people who are beaten and fundamentally damaged - they wouldn't recognise their opressors doing good even if they were. It's a lesson that more people need to learn if they are going to develop compassion. If you're just going to read this and start tweeting #notallblahblah garbage, then move on. Otherwise check it out LitRPG: Catharsis (Awaken Online #1) (Travis Bagwell). A young teen is expelled from school and finds empowerment in an online VR game. I was not looking forward to this category, and further books in the genre aren't high on my TBR list. But this was really entertaining. As a gamer who particularly likes RPG styles, this was not too far off my interests and it prompted me to make a pet character in Grim Dawn. The genre is criticised for bad writing and worse editing. This book was not like that - it was well written, well paced, and appropriately edited. If you're curious about the genre, check it out. Five SFF Short Stories: City of Saints and Madmen (Jeff Van Der Meer). A series of short (and novella lenght) stories set in the city of Ambergris, home to humans, a race of genocidal mushrooms, and giant squid that may or may not be hyperintelligent. The first story was chilling. The second story was hilarious. The academic report of the squid was half funny half acid trip. There was lots to like, but... Overall I found it a chore. For every bit that was brilliant (ie. the first story) there was something else that while interesting was a bit of a trudge and I wasn't fully engaged. Lovers of weird will probably have checked this out, and if they haven't they should. People who like more conventional storytelling might want to give it a miss. For those in between (like me) it was a mixed bag that overall was worth it even if it wasn't 100%.
